FRI. DEC. 11 – Technique Tune-Up (5:30 PM – 7:30 PM )

We will kick off the Winter Intensive by fine-tuning the fundamentals that will help you get the most out of our work together. Through a series of drills and combinations, we’ll polish technique while adding style and confidence. We’ll focus on posture, clean turns, arm placement, transitions, balance, and movement quality; essential skills that carry across both lyrical Raqs Sharqi and the drum solo work we’ll be doing together. Bring a veil.

SADIE – WORKSHOP #2:

SAT. DEC. 12 – Rohi Ya Nesma: Soulful Raqs Sharqi with Veil (4:15 PM – 6:15PM)

Rohi Ya Nesma by George Wassouf, known as the “Sultan of Tarab,” is an exquisite example of Tarab, described as an ecstatic or deeply moved state that can arise through music. While no technique or formula can recreate that experience through dance, we can explore how the feelings it awakens might find expression through movement.

This choreography becomes a journey into that relationship between music, emotion, and the body. What we feel and how we express it will naturally be different for every dancer. 

More than simply learning choreography, this workshop is a practice in listening deeply, responding honestly, and allowing movement to become a vehicle for the full range of emotions we can experience and express. It invites you to discover the freedom that can emerge when we move beyond performing the steps and enter into our own personal relationship with the music. Bring a veil.

Explore the technique, musicality, and precision behind Sadie’s iconic drum solo style. Break down isolations, accents, shimmies, abdominal work, and layers, then put them into action in a brand-new drum solo choreography ready for you to Raq!
